Operating for 30 years (originally established in 1985 as Blackburn & District Well Women’s Centre) we now run a network of 5 female only centres in located in Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Blackpool & Preston. Our vision is that all women in Lancashire are able to achieve their potential, develop their assets & skills & live safe, healthy & prosperous lives.
Our services are available to all women, but in particular work with women in situations which can increase their vulnerability or place them at significant risk of harm. This includes women who have experienced (often a number f) the following: Poor mental health; Low confidence & self esteem; abuse, trauma & exploitation; Poverty & economic disadvantage; women who have had contact with the criminal justice system.
Our ‘One Stop Shop’ delivery model has received national recognition for it’s impact - evidenced by receipt of the following national awards: 2013 National GSK Impact Award (Overall Winner); 2014 European Social Fund (ESF) National Gender Equality Leader; 2015 Weston Charity Award Winner; 2015 Howard League for Penal Reform Community Awards (Women). Our approach is also based upon & reflects national best practice in our fields of work.
LWC have successfully managed contracts fora range of public bodies including NHS North West, Public Health England, East Lancashire CCG, Blackburn with Darwen CCG, Lancashire Care Foundation Trust, Health Education England, Sodexo Justice Services Lancashire Probation Trust, the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner and Lancashire Constabulary.
