The William Merritt Centre is an independent charity based in Leeds, operating throughout Yorkshire. The centre offers, impartial information, advice and assessments on assistive technology. The Centre enables children, adults and older people to overcome disability and illness by demonstrating the use of equipment/technology to remain as independently as possible. People come to the centre to increase their independence in the kitchen, bathing or showering, getting dressed, managing continence, choosing wheelchairs/scooters and effective moving and handling. The Motability Assessment service helps people either start or remain driving, following illness or disability. The centre runs Car Seat and Tricycle clinics for children with disabilities to access vehicles, and Switches4kidz Project helps children to access toys. This includes technology4teens project, enabling people with disabilities to use IT and attend accessible gaming workshops. The centre is frequently used by professionals working with service users and provides training and healthcare seminars.
