Social Enterprise Mark CIC
20th June 2017
Social Enterprise Mark CIC is the social enterprise accreditation authority, which ensures the social enterprise business model remains ethical, credible and commercial through accreditation. It is responsible for assessing applications for the internationally recognised Social Enterprise Mark and Social Enterprise Gold Mark.
The Social Enterprise Mark is the only internationally available social enterprise accreditation, enabling credible social enterprises to prove they put the interests of people and planet before shareholder gain.
The Social Enterprise Gold Mark provides an enhanced accreditation to social enterprises which can demonstrate social enterprise excellence. It is a business development tool that sets benchmarks and an action plan for continuous improvement.
The Social Enterprise Mark Community Interest Company is itself an accredited social enterprise. The Social Enterprise Mark CIC joined the ranks of Mark holders by becoming accredited in January 2014. Its application was rigorously assessed by the Mark’s independent Certification Panel.
Social Enterprise Mark CIC is a Community Interest Company (CIC) Limited by shares. A steering group made up of social enterprise leaders and supporters agreed that a Mark was important for the sector and together agreed its design, purpose and criteria. It was informed by the Social Enterprise Mark pilot run by Rise in South West England.
Our vision: A world in which there is commitment to social enterprise as a means to achieve positive social and environmental change. Social Enterprise Mark CIC exists to recognise and promote the capabilities of social enterprises as competitive, sustainable businesses, dedicated to maximising social impact above shareholder profit.
