Your Own Place CIC
9th June 2017
‘Your Own Place is a social enterprise working with 16-25 year olds to prevent loss of their home and homelessness. We value every young person as an individual. All young people have aspirations. Our task is to liberate them, remove the barriers and allow their aspirations to be achieved. We deliver Tenancy & Independent Living Skills courses, 1-2-1 budgeting and money skills, employment support, mentor training and support as we as consultancy in related areas. We prevent homelessness and every intervention is delivered with this as the final outcome. ‘Your Own Place equips young people with the skills, confidence and knowledge to live safely and securely. By working restoratively and delivering high quality interventions we create a culture of empowered and independent young people.’
Thanks to mentoring from local businesses, 70% of our mentees feel more confident and better equipped to keep their home and avoid future homelessness.
90% of our tenancy trained young people report feeling more confident as tenants after attending our courses. At £8000 per eviction or loss of tenancy, our aim is to save Housing Associations and the public purse money by reducing the proportion of young people that lose a tenancy.
On our latest course a young person said 'I didn't think we'd learn as much as we did' and 'all young people should do this course - I didn't know you had to pay for water'. We have 90% positive feedback from funders and commissioners. They regard us as 'professional and tenacious with young people.'
‘Your Own Place equips young people with the skills, confidence and knowledge to live safely and securely.
