Proper Job consists of a Resource Centre where items for reuse are donated for sale - books, clothes, bric a brac, dvd's Cd's. furniture, etc
garden materials are brought to be composted and all manner of materials to be recycled
we also have a community cafe / wholefood / greengrocer in the town
we promote food waste composting and work with a manufacturer to build 'Scotty's HotBoxes' which are secure cubic metre composters for food waste - usually used in conjunction with a tumbling or turning composter. Our main clients are schools and businesses producing food waste which can be composted in situ.
we offer tours of the site and consultancy on composting issues
we have recently celebrated our 20th birthday and have have innumerable visits from local authorities wanting training in composting, both from within Devon and from afar. We have been invited to speak at conferences in the UK, France, Czech Republic and Italy. Nicky Scott founding director has written four books for Green Books on composting and recycling and has been involved in food waste initiatives for the past 20 years or so.
many projects like ours are run by volunteers. we have always believed in job creation and training on the job - hence the name 'Proper Job' we have had so many people working both on our resource site and in our cafe who have gone on to other work and used us like a springboard to get their careers going! we want to show our community that they can change their wasteful habits and we aim for a zero waste community.
