Kernow Positive Support
15th April 2016
Kernow Positive Support is the only charity in Cornwall which supports people living with HIV. We also promote knowledge, understanding and awareness of HIV and its issues.
Many companies offer broad sexual health workshops, but KPS offers HIV-specific awareness training, including the social impact of living with HIV, tailored to your company, business or enterprise.
Training can include: Origins of HIV, treatment and prevention, prevalence, social care, the social implications of living with HIV and the effects of stigma, prejudice and discrimination.
We have taken our training out to schools, colleges, GP’s practices and disability organisations. Attendees at our training for front line workers include care agencies, Victim Support, Devon and Cornwall Police and consumer advice charities. All have been very well received.
Praise from Disability Cornwall:
“I’d like to say how much we all enjoyed Max’s talk this morning; the time flew by and he was so knowledgeable, fun and approachable. And to top it all off, when a member of our team with a hearing impairment asked a question, Max asked him if he signed and they were able to converse in BSL!”
Improving the lives of people with HIV, their families and carers, by providing advice, information, care support and counselling.
Educating and training the public about the needs of people with HIV to promote better understanding of the disease.
We provide an extensive range of support services for people in Cornwall living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. We offer guidance and support, tailoring our services to clients’ individual needs, and fight against stigma and discrimination towards people with HIV, helping to empower and support.
We offer advocacy, representation, training, financial and housing advice, counselling, therapies, drop-in opportunities, peer support, hardship funds, respite opportunities and awareness raising workshops.
