iCan Health and Fitness CIC
19th March 2018
We are a locally rooted Health and Wellbeing Centre, providing services in all aspects of health fitness and mental wellbeing. Specially designed to engage inactive adults in Carlisle, who think they can't changing attitudes from I can't to iCan. We have over 30 years experience collectively and have been striving to improve wellbeing in our city for nearly 11 years. In 2017 we became a social enterprise and in 2018 won HIGHLY COMMENDED NEW SOCIAL ENTERPRISE and SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR.
We have helped over 3,000 women since we opened. We have worked with Cumbria County Council on a cardio vascular programme, The Armed Forces Covenant helping ex veterans get back their fitness, Cumbria Community Foundation has funded new equipment, Big Lottery Awards for All, on a new form of fitness and Cumbria Social Enterprise has been our biggest supporter of all. We are working hard to expand to enable us to deliver to more of the under represented and under privileged people of our City.
Our aim is to provide structure into inactive adults lives, who need to become more active and find a special safe fun workout facility to call their own. iCan is member led where members have an active say in how the facility is managed and what activities take place. Support is give to every member through a supervised and personalised programme. Members are not only encouraged and motivated by I can staff, but also through a peer to peer mentor programme. Members are offered the chance to buddy up with an existing member and be mentored to success by them. Improving social isolation amongst the older generation is great priority of ours.
